"To see the cracks in you..."
The other day I had a song stuck in my head, and it took me about 10 minutes to figure out what it was. The song was "Draining the Pool for You", by The Go-Betweens, & the key words in my head were "hired", "better prospects", and "against".
Needless to say, I finally figured it out. [1]
It's a brilliant song. My favorite lines:
Remembered your name
Evidently, you've forgotten mine.
You know a lot of people
I know, a mind dulled by work and by wine.
Hmm, yes, right--so anyway, I particularly love the version of "Draining the Pool for You" from That Striped Sunlight Sound, their live album/DVD recorded last year in their home town (Brisbane, Australia)...
... which album on every listen is edging closer to my favorite album for this year, and is simultaneously making me more & more fucking depressed about Grant McLennan's untimely death just a month and a half ago. So, so sad.
[1] The specific lyrics I remembered were: "I got hired against my wish / With better prospects, after this."
